The Rex
About
Carefully balancing form and functionality. Originally opened in 1952 as a hotel housing international guests such as Frank Sinatra, the Rex became apartments in 2002. As a result, the oversized one bedroom apartment juxtaposed with a small kitchnette resulted in an askew layout.
Our goal was to rescale and find the balance. Working collaboratively with the owners, we increased the propportions of the kitchen, added a WIR to our master bedroom , increased the living room and bathroom size, all while injecting as much smart space saving design as possible. This new layout was then layered with a contemporary material palette combining warmer timbers, cool greys and gunmetal highlights.
Overall, the apartment has been transformed into a contemporary inner city home boasting increased functionality and style.
